Selection and Procurement
Comparing options, checking capability boundaries, and buying Enterprise without guessing.
The most common mistake in evaluation is not picking the wrong vendor; it is assuming that upgrading the plan means acquiring the capability. These articles lay out plan boundaries, how capabilities are actually sold (included, Enterprise-only, or a separate add-on) and the buying process itself: Enterprise has no public price list, the quote follows domains, traffic, product mix, service commitments and contract length, and what is written in the contract matters more than the number.
What we conclude in this topic
- Enterprise has no public price list: the quote follows domains, traffic, product mix and contract length.
- Sorting capabilities into included, Enterprise-only and add-on is where the budget conversation actually starts.
- Quotas are contractual — rule counts, log jobs, rate limiting rules. Check before you assume.
- Validate on a small scope before signing: a POC on real traffic beats any demo.
- Migration is phased domain by domain; downtime is a design choice, not an inevitability.

Cloudflare Free vs Enterprise: When to Upgrade
Free and Enterprise differ in three ways: plan-included limits, Enterprise-only products, and paid add-ons on top. Six signals that an upgrade pays off.
Cloudflare WAF vs AWS WAF
One is an inspecting reverse proxy with CDN and DDoS built in; the other a rule engine on a load balancer. What that means in practice.
How to Choose an Enterprise Web Application Firewall
WAF selection is not a rule-count contest. False positive cost, expressiveness against your business logic, and who maintains it decide it.
Related Cloudflare capabilities
WAF
Managed and custom rules that inspect HTTP requests at the edge, blocking common attacks before they reach your origin.
CDN
Caches and serves your content from a global edge network, cutting latency for distant users and removing load from your origin.
Bot Management
Classifies automated traffic with a per-request score, separating scripts and scrapers from real users without a static rule for each one.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Cloudflare Enterprise cost?
There is no meaningful single number. Pricing is driven by domain count, traffic and request volume, product mix, service commitment level and contract length, and two companies of similar size can sign very different contracts. The useful question is what order of magnitude applies to you — the full breakdown of pricing, contract terms and the buying process is on the Enterprise pricing page.
Does upgrading to Enterprise include API Shield and Bot Management?
No, both are added separately. Cloudflare documents the API Shield security suite as an Enterprise-only paid add-on, and Bot Management for Enterprise as a product your account team adds to an Enterprise plan. Upgrading the zone plan gives you neither automatically.
Does upgrading to Enterprise mean downtime?
Usually not. Cutover is phased domain by domain — validate on a small set of domains or non-critical paths, then widen scope, and traffic moves once DNS propagates. The thing to watch is the origin: if the origin address was previously exposed, rotate it and restrict who can reach it during migration.
